Before you respond: Please make sure that you take time to look at the concerns and further information presented on the detailed site pages listed in the navigation menu above. If you have limited time, then focus on the ‘Top 5 Major concerns‘ page at this link.
Rather than giving a simple quick response, please consider using some of the more detailed points and arguments raised in the detail pages of this site. Your voice matters.
Respond to the Consultation
If you are concerned, it is really important that you respond to Defra by 4 December 2024, as that is the only organisation that can make Southern Water rethink its plan. You can respond to the consultation by emailing Defra or in writing to the address further down this page. If you want to submit a more detailed response, you may find it easier to draft in a word processing programme, for example Microsoft Word, which you can either print and post or save as a PDF file or MS Word Document for attachment to an email.
If you are responding by email:
Please address your email to water.resources@defra.gov.uk, copying wrmp@southernwater.co.uk. To make life easier, just press the button below and your email program should open, prefilled with the right subject and addressees.
(Note that when taking this link, a blind copy addressee will also be set up on your email so that the campaign team can see your response and update these notes for others where new facts come to light. If you do not wish the campaign team to see your response, then simply remove the ‘bcc’ email address before sending the note.)
Please copy your email to your MP and share this email to make a difference. You can find their email address at this link.
If you are responding by letter:
Please address your concerns to Defra at:
Secretary of State (Defra)
Water Resources Management Plan Consultation (Southern Water)
Water Resources

If you are responding using the Southern Water online questionnaire:
Alternatively, you can use the Southern Water online questionnaire which can be found on the company’s website.
If you complete the Southern Water online questionnaire please make sure you provide some information in the comments box at Question 10 to explain why you don’t support the Hampshire effluent recycling scheme via Havant Thicket Reservoir, and any other aspects of their latest plan that concern you.
The closing date is 4 December 2024
The main Southern Water Consultation documents are available to view as printed copies in local libraries and can be found online at this link – waterresources.southernwater.co.uk.
To help you out, we’ve included links to the full set of available SW Documents at the bottom of the ‘SW Latest Plan’ page, making that page the one-stop-shop for all the information you need to respond.
